The problem is an SSD for system drive is actually part of the windows minimum requirements..... they just don't want to admit it.

Exactly this.

Manufacturers still producing new Windows machines with old slow mech drives should be carbon or some other form of taxed.

I waited for more than 3 hours yesterday for a brand-new Acer laptop just to get through the setup and update process.

OP: look at Kubuntu it feels/looks/works a lot like Windows - even better in some aspects.

The setup runs in the background while it asks you the machine information, unlike windows which stops to ask you questions and tries to force you for an online account + only continues after you answered, also none of the bloatware MS adds.

There are lots of little cool things like a bandwidth meter right in the networking tray icon etc + you get a faster more stable OS for free.

IMHO: Since everything is online, average users spend most of their time inside a browser window, so having a big bloated OS like Windows - is becoming more obsolete by the year.
