2008 Model.
Freezes once a day and wont start until after 20 times of pushing power. Quicker if I hold it upside down, then it starts.
When in iPhoto suddenly get all my pics squiggly behind the one I'm looking at.
In FB , every few days the lines just multiply down the page and it must be switched off.
Using disk utility I get messages saying; keys outof order, the volume mac hd needs to be repaired, permissions differ and loads of pages of errors in Console.
Sadly I know nothing about computers.
I reloaded from my original discs yesterday but had to go to istore to get my mailboxes back,
 
Yes , still happening. Had to stand on its side to restart this morning. Froze again last night. Cannot get Iphoto back despite a complete backup done a few days ago to a Transend. Missing my mail history addresses too.
 
If you have the original install media, are you comfortable installing to a flash drive? A 2008 model will be Leopard / Snow Leopard so 16GB flash will be needed. Install OS to this drive, boot from drive and see if the system is stable. If these issues no longer persist then I suspect the HD. If they do (which I think will happen) then it is most likely onboard graphics. Take it to iStore clearwater and have them send it off to core in this case - although I doubt it would be worth the money.

There was a recall on the models with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics card.
This recall was still running last year when a friend took a MBPro in to Digicape.
I believe they fit a new main board to affected machines.

Thanks guys. It went to iFix for 3 days and came back untouched.......
Got a R2k voucher from Head Office and it's gone back.
Let's see what happens this time.

ps Any way to switch off email on that laptop remotely ?
 
Bump.

Does anyone know if Dennis from 'RepairsDotCom' is still around? I can't find any info and the number I had for him just rings. Have an old Apple Cinema Display (last generation) that needs TLC if possible.
