Anyone know of any good programs for Game Development and Computer Animation???

all help is appreciated...

What's your programming skills level? You can use DarkBasic for simple games programming. Otherwise, if you're more advanced, Visual C++ with DirectX will do the trick. To save on effort, consider using an open source gaming engine such as IIRLicht. You will also need a whole host of graphic programs - photoshop, 3d modelling tools, etc.

It depends very much on what kind of game you want to write, what the best resources are.

I agree, for serious game coding, you have to be a C++ expert. There is no way around that. Also consider OpenGL instead of DirectX. Some people say OpenGL is easier to learn (because it does not have the Microsoft tied ActiveX-ness of DirectX) and both give the same results on the screen.

Well Im going to be studing Game development, but im just trying to get my hands on some of the tools used, i had Maya 3 and ive done some pretty sweet animations. but i want mto start doing the programing and AI stuff.

Depends on the game I suppose.

Other than the (good) suggestions above, you can also use java and Flash for web games.

well i just wanna make a character that ive make in maya run and walk, turn left and right and stuff like that.

I have the book "Focus on 3D Models", but it only does static Maya models. For some of the other formats, it does dynamic models with bones etc. Have you had a look at the Maya website for more info?

Have fun at Fullsail. I am also a bit jealous.
