Just want u all to know - we had from the 1'st of this month a HUGE jump in upload traffic which we could not explain. No virus check or anything else reported anything funny. Then we noticed the network switch working overtime (along with the router).

In the end we found (after using up a record of 12.6 gb of bandwidth up to yesterday) that we actually had a worm/virus. A "friendly" one (nachi) that tried to remove the MSBlast worm, even if it did not exist on our network. It turns out that this worm infects systems without a specific ms patch applied to their systems and then patches them. After that it hoghs the network trying to "infect" other machines.

In the process it managed to get us capped in ther first 4 days of this month ;-)

So, sorry Telkom. It was, after all NOT your fault!

Happy you solved your problem!

Pity that the image of Telkom's of technical competence is so bad, that one starts with the assumption it's Telkom problem

Let's hope Telkom will up their technical service to the level where it is a given that they are not to blame when one tries to track a problem.

This is exactly why a CAP imposed by TELKOM is a Bad Idea (tm).

Have you considered how you GOT that virus? Yes, probably about a million other machines out there on the internet saw your router, and tried to root it.

And guess who's cap it affected? Yes, yours again. Only this time, you had NO control over the matter.

Downloaded a tool (had to use dialup ;-) file name: "nachigui.com" - search on google and u should find it!
Execute and let it search for the worm...
