are lans better than internet multiplayer?

so..tell me lans or internet multiplayer?? i dont know so can you tell me what you think about this!!

i play lans at friends houses but sometimes it realy sucks, so tell me does internet multiplayer rule!!??

It depends on what you do, when I used to (guess which one I chose) LAN at friends places it was more a social element with gaming instead of just gaming, I think its all on how you spin the LAN whether its good or not.

the only thing im laning now is my 46d550 samsung tv on my router....watching HD movies and series from my pc
 
I think that KinsZA was doing the poor OP a favour. I mean nobody responded to his thread for 8 years before today :(
 
Guys, KinsZA actually sent that post back in 2004.... he just used a 28.8k modem back then, that's all.
He should see our replies in around 8 years.

Was reading the forum backwards, was a decent question which is still debated today so why not answer it.

Heck these days if you want to LAN you're not even doing it since its all over the internet eg Starcraft II and Diablo 3 to come.

It's nice to hang out, have a braai, some drinks etc... but I hate moving my pc so I skip that part rather play online when I get back home :P

I have been to many lans. This is what I can say:

- LAN's with NO INTERNET access SUCK ASS!!! These are the type of LAN's I avoid personally, because at some time we get tired of playing lan games, and so we would use online games as an alternate.

- Multiplayer (online) is also good, but if you have a proper internet line (1mbps +) then it will be pleasant. People with less than 1mbps wont enjoy it because of the lag.

LAN's are really nice if there is internet access (a friend of mine hosted, and he has a 10mbps ADSL Line + 100GB, so we play online games (i play NFS online, others watch youtube all at the same time). Multiplayer is all good too, but nothing beats having a lan with friends.

I find that lans are more fun because your surrounded by your friends. Where online just hearing their voices or reading their text is just not the same. And obviously the ping is dam good because no telkom or rubbish isp in between.

And at big lans hearing random ppl swearing, because of you pawning them is also very funny.
