Hello.. :D

forgive me my .cad knowledge is rathr limited.

A client who uses arti-cad to create kitchen designs is complaining that when rendering larger designs it slows down, i opened task manager and indeed it is maxing out the cpu. they currently have a p4 2.4 ghz with 1gb ram & a 32mb onboard vga..

will a new cpu (E2180) with new mobo & ram make a noticable differance or should i rather get a C2D? & is onboard vga good enough for cad programs?

thnx:)

its the onboard video. if they have a AGP or PCIe slot, get a decent videocard. This may resolve some of the issues. Also, try minimizing cad wile the render takes place, less graphics on screen, thus it should go a little faster.

Also, check for spyware, and get something to clean out the registry, however do not Defrag your registry - bad news!.

Also, disable some of the pc's bling!... Windows don't have to have effects etc... switch them off.

Run MSCONFIG and disable all the little useless applets that's not needed.

You mentioned new hardware to resolve the issue, yes, Dual core with 2gig ram and decent cooling would make a huge difference.

System Requirements off Arti-cad website
Windows Vista - Intel Core Duo processor or equivalent, 2048 MB RAM, 80 GIG HDD, 256 MB GraphicsCard, DVD Rom, Monitor, Windows VISTA.

I have seen similar software packages completely MURDER entry level cards like the 7300 and 8400.

The software uses OpenGL to render in 3D

I would suggest a 8600GT 256 minimum.

I would also recommend you stay away from the Intel E2000 and 4000 series. AMD processors at the same price provide more performance if you are not overclocking.

The AMD 4800+ is the same price as the intel E2180, but 30% faster.

intel only get faster when you hit the R1500+ mark. Anything cheaper, AMD is faster

I would suggest a AMD 4800+, 2GB DDR2 ram (667 or 800) and then 8600GT 256mb cards
