Assembling the best PC under R10 000

hahah ya shock g good point, i just figured by the sounds of it he doesnt play many games that a 7300gt wont handle

x1600 and x1600pro are shocking i returned my x1600pro for a 7600gt rather

R600 < 8800GTX
I am willing to bet one of my PC's on it ;)

There is i have managed to help you save R1844.00 and with that you can almost get yourself a GF7900GS

Thanks a lot, but where did you get those prices? Do they include VAT?

Some awesome advice guys - thank you!

My requirements are similar - but I can forgo the screen for now and as I have little time for gaming - so can the graphics card :(

Any of the experts on the list want to offer to put it together for me? At a reasonable fee of course - I am assuming it is the occupation of at least one of you?

Drop me a message.

Thanks

MIKE

My revised configuration, based on suggestions in this thread, is as follows

Intel® Boxed Core2™Duo E6400 Processor @ R 2,290.00

Intel (Roger City Series) Desktop board based on Intel D965G Chipset @ R 1,163.00

Hynix 1GB 667Mhz, DDR2, 240-Pin Memory Module @ R 1,099.00

Seagate® Barracuda™ 7200.10 Series - 250GB Serial ATA II (SATA2) Plus @ R 796.00

Sparkle Nvidia GeForce™ 7600GS U2 512MB DDR2 HDTV DVI SLI @ R 1,450.00

BenQ 19" LCD MONITOR FP91G+ @ R 2,102.00

LG 16X DVD Super Multi Writer @ R 385.00

Gigabyte(TM) X1 Chassis - Black - 400W PSU @ R 527.00

Gigabyte® Stylish Bundle @ R 119.00

TOTAL (EXCL. MONITOR): R 7,829.00
TOTAL (INCL. MONITOR): R 9,931.00 , some assembly required :D

This leaves the option of purchasing an additional Hynix 1GB 667Mhz, DDR2 if required later, or, if my budget should increase before purchasing the PC, the Corsair® TwinX™ XMS2™ Matched Memory Pair - 2x 1GB Modules - DDR2-667.

Thank you for your continued suggestions. I am sure I'm not the only person appreciating them. :)

P.S. If you find a lower price for any of these components (14% VAT included), I would greatly appreciate a link to the offer.

Legend 7600GT from Prophecy is R1400. 512MB edition of GS will be slower than regular edition 7600GS so avoid that entirely. And besides you save R50

When will we start seeing the DX10 cards? I'm probably waiting for Windows Vista anyway, which is supposed to be released in early February, last I heard. Why would the 512MB edition be slower, though?

i dunno dx is still on speculation release time - maybe i'ts worth to upgrade only near the new year of 2008

Nah dude there is never a good time to upgrade amnd besides a 7600gt should be more than sufficient for 'light' gaming.

That is a nice system for that price go for it, especially as it includes a 19' LCD.

There's no point in upgrading before February, since I want the PC when I move to Stellenbosch in February. I'm still using the family's P4 2.8 HT, which is fine for now. No reason for me to rush and get a new one that's just going to sit in its box until then.

Also, I'm figuring, if I want the PC around 1 February and Vista might be appearing on 7 February, why not wait a week, instead of setting up a Windows XP system (which takes about a week anyway) and then having to format my HDD in order to upgrade to Vista?

Forget about DX10 right now. It's not like there's a game releasing with Vista that you can't even start with a GF7. And besides I doubt if 8600GT will be R1,400. So stick to what you have, it should actually be cheaper by end of Jan in which case, maybe you can exchange for 8600GT, but that's assuming everything else dropped by more than R800 in total.

Either way the system is fine with the 7600GT.
OPh why 512MBG GS would be slwer than 256MB? Easy it will use more ram but of slower speed. instead of say 2.5ns you'll get 4ns ram which is horrid.

naaa brawler with the right system a 7600gt is great for heavy gaming :)

i mean i run bf 2 on medium with 4 x AA not bad but i got a 7900gs i wanna see if i can full with maybe 8 x af not that i have the time to play at moment though

Good suggestion wmaker. By the time I'm buying, there may be new GPU's available and prices are sure to drop, so I'm holding on to see what happens. If the CPU's drop in price, I may even be able so go for the 6600 in the end as well as a better graphics card.
