Asus An8E or An8 Slu Premium

Hi

I have a dual core 3800 X2, XFX 7900 GT and just need to buy the m/b to complete my pc, im uncertain about the Asus A8nE and the An8-P, im not going to use SLI in the future, if not are the performance on the boards comparble, is it worth paying R600 for the Premium which has a better colling system from what ive read in reviews.

Your help will be appreciated
 
I bought a A8Ne recently and there are some things that really bother me about the board. The lock on the pci-express slot is a stupid, overintricate thing you have to shift sideways and looks like it will break off. Also some of the ram slots are located under the area where my graphics card (6800GS) goes over so if i want to add more ram or change some i have to take out my graphics card first. Besides these facts it seems to be a really stabe board and probably a good buy.
 
When running more than 2 ram modules in either of these boards ur ram speed WILL down clock to 333mhz. Asus in Asia have put the problem down to a memory controller problem on the AMD DC cpu's. My 2c worth.

AMEN to that! On a friend's A8N32SLI-D, we recently had to reset the BIOS, by getting at the CLRTC jumper, which is bloodywell under the lower PCI-e slot, dammit ..*ahem*.. Anyhow, said fiddly piece only made it worse by being in the way - and between our combined efforts it didn't survive the night.

Oh well, at least it'll be easier to get at the jumper next time round.. :cool:

you can solve this problem by manually setting the mem clock to 400.
 
The short awnser you are looking for is:

No, it's not worth the extra R600 to the average user.

SATA Raid controllers are cheap if you want more Hard drives, and very few people need a second network card.

Go for the A8N-E. Its the best Nforce4 bang for buck out there.

No you cant. Go buy urself this setup and try it.
