Hello,

I cannot send email through smtp.iburst.co.za. This mail server is SLOW and PATHETIC.

Either open up your network so I can use my own or manage your one properly because this is rediculous.

Thanks

Edited to add: Does anyone know a way around them blocking any SMTP servers but their own?

Hear hear, but don't hold your breath.

Yesterday's excuse from Ed Hall was that this was due to spammers, and on regular occasions I got an overloaded response when trying to send email. The rest of the time it was slow and pathetic. The mail.iburst.co.za server is just as bad.

This has been an ongoing problem for some time, and it is clear that the Iburst mail server systems simply cannot cope.

It is time that they woke up to this and either increased capacity or allowed use of other servers. At least they should just be honest and open with the clients.

Question - if they do open up the server - how does one get past the "don't allow relaying" response from the other server when accessing it from the Iburst network???

Well, the way it works on my domain is you receive mail before you send it. As part of that process, it seems to authenticate me to use the outgoing mail server from the current IP address.

Noswal - according to a list I have, smtp.wbs.co.za and smtp.iburst.co.za both resolve to 208.67.219.40

At least they should just be honest and open with the clients.
Wouldn't that be against company policy ?
:D :D

Seriously though - anyone with other ideas ??
I appreciate that Ed may be guessing as well - but maybe they're just out of capacity, so it won't go away in a hurry.

In the meantime, I need to survive this period - and get clients off my back.
Even a temporary workaround will be helpful.

All contributions gratefully accepted.
Meths.

ffs this has been mentioned a thousand times. PHONE THEM AND ASK THEM TO UNBLOCK YOUR OWN SMTP SERVERS!

Gmail, you can change Gmail to make it look like you a replying from your normal account.

There are (as i understand) 2 options here.
1) Ask your own mail host to open up another port other than port 25 to send your mail. Then on outgoing mail server tab (in outlook) set to authenticate outgoing mail server and under advanced, change the outgoing port to another number as given to you by your mail host.
2) Contact iBurst to allow you to use your own outgoing mail server. You have to write an email supplying various bits and pieces of info and a few days later your emails are flying around happily with minimal delays.

I only heard about option 1 recently but option 2 works like a charm for me. No problems with sending mail over the last few days :-)

Yes, and then they block 'em a few months down the line if you get Cap of Death.

they do this to prevent iBurst users spamming into the internet.. but it's a load of BS if you ask me.

I am not going to go through the whole rigmarole again just to get my overseas smtp server unblocked.... I am sorry my health won't stand for it! I am going to find a way to hack my SMTP traffic out of their network, either by wrapping it in a VPN sytle thing or some other way
