The R404 is only for dispatch of the technician (time &material& petrol). With self install available this fee will fall away. The Once off fee suggested by ICASA , to cover initial DSL Capex could easily be >R100K per user for the early adopters + repair & mainanance will be closer to R404 per incident + material. Frankly it is more viable to retain DSL access fee but at a lower rate.

Please don't go off topic again Ayanda-

Again moving away from international norms!

Ayanda - Don't you think R404 for a "technician" who walks in, plugs the router in and says - "OK - It's Working" is a little mutch? What materials are involved

No doubt Telkom would prefer to keep line rental - it is sustainable income. Telkom are attempting to build the ADSL network in South Africa on a model similar to the cellphone companies, except that it is not done this way anywhere else in the world. Paying a Line rental charge as well as "only pay for what you use" proves this point.

Where do arrive at the figure of R100 000?

This sort of rhetoric only strengthen's peoples resolve. Unfortunatly I am not a network architect - but if there is anything else that can be done - let us know.

If the R404 is for the techie to come to my house, then I'll will have to claim it back from Telkom, seeing as how he never pitch. Not to mention that my adsl line went down twice in the first two weeks, thanks to telkom working in the area.

SuperAntMD - I know I am sorry. :D

Ayanda is being arb though, trying to disperse the crowd gathering for a second ICASA complaint.

byrd---I totally agree with u...Ayanda got this thing about ICASA and strangely supports Telkom's methods to enrich itself and its investors at the cost of the country's economy and increasing the gap between the poor and the not so poor

Byrd, I support the view of rpm. all views are welcome. lets us not single out members because they disagree with us.

London - As I have also said - that that view is fine within limits. IE we dont want employees acting in their capacities as employees but prentending to be private. They should be honest and upfront about the fact. I said nowhere that Ayanda should not post or leave the forum

However when you start hijacking a thread that is simply not on and goes against common forum ettiquete.

That is why I have started another thread for him or her.

I don't think we'll be hearing back from Ayanda anytime soon.

No one should be punished for voicing out in this forum. But nobody should use this forum to play dirty games.

Somebody should just be open and honest, so we can have a fair and free discussion!!!

Agreed. We don't need to worry about opposing viewpoints as long as we're sure about the truth of the matter.

Can't we have this thread closed already  ... I think there are more important /constructive threads than this "Ayanda" issue.
