What can we do to help the situation? is there anything? we are willing. There's a couple of other wireless solutions here that are making a killing and chowing up potential clients. albeit inferior products, and packages, already ppl in here have opted to go to the likes of wo.co.za and uninetwork.co.za as they cant wait.

]The reason why Durban went ahead is that the Sugar barons, our glorious heritage, have already shagged the fragile ecosystem into the ground. The towers don't affect the sugar cane fields that much.
On the down side, we're rapidly losing our topsoil, and so we're going to turn into a barren wasteland... but hey, least we can rot our teeth and arteries with sugar while playing online, eh?
Just strap some platforms onto the towers so that eagles can nest on them. That'll make the nature lovers happy, guaranteed

Being on the technical side all I've heard through the "grapevine" is that Beta testing in CT has been postponed till mid May.

Spoke to Harold [Sentech] in Cape Town and he metioned that the launch for the 19th was not going to happen. Could not give an official statement !!! But he did saythat the bloody "tree huggers" were giving them da finger. No date of when they will be up and running here.
It is sad, so sad. Going out this evening to find a few tree huggers and nailing them to their trees
May make me feel better. [}]
Would at least be nice to get an official statemnt and date. At least we will know when and thus what to do. http://www.wo.co.za sounds like a good option except for the installation costs. Gettig tired of my ISDN connection and the cost !!!

Folks, I hear your frustration about the delays and believe me, I am as excited as a kid on Christmas eve about the prospect of getting my wireless connection.
I stand in the precarious position however of being both what has been referred to in this thread as a 'tree hugger' as well as a tech-zealot in one body.

I now don't just live most technologically backwards country (where internet connectivity is concerned), but now my beloved city is also getting unfair treatment.
I can't get ADSL cause TELSCUM won't install DSLAMs at my exchange, and now my only other hope has been delayed to.
When will the torment end.

I dunno, but if you wanted a pretty skyscape to look at, then you shouldn't be living in an urban area.
I mean, most of those buildings in that picture are butt-ugly too. The towers are the least factor when it comes to "disturbing the skyline".
I'd rather have a skyline populated by millions of towers, and antennae than having my kid breath the smog I do every day. More nuclear reactors for me please.

Look, FairShare has a fair point... We live in the most beautiful country in da world, quite frankly i don't mind waiting a few months while sentech and the tree huggers come to an agreement - which i'm sure will not turn out like FairShare's pic [8D]

Let's just hope that Sentech aren't simply using tree huggers as an excuse for a slipping project plan - after all, environmental impact assessments should have been factored in right at the start.
That being said, I congratulate Sentech on what seems to be a winner so far given the feedback in this forum. Can't wait to try it out when it finally gets to 'the most beautiful city in the world'.
