bandwidth throttle / shaping

Hi,

I've got an internet cafe with about 10 computers. I'm running a wireless LAN which connects to the internet via ADSL using a netgear modem. I've got a linux box running squid and firewall and it sits between the AP and the modem.

After a few complaints I've found that some clients are downloading huge files and this slows down the speed for everyone else. I don't want to limit how much they download, but I'd like to share the bandwidth between all 10 computers equally.

My question is: what linux software (kernel module, etc) would you recommend that can do this for me ? I'm not too clued up on QoS/traffic shaping so some direction from more experienced users would be great.

Linux I cant help you with but Windows I can.


Um there are bandwidth limiting softwares avilaible. I like using Netlimiter and freeproxy together. Netlimiter can limit speeds based on application, even by IP. You can download a free trial at www.netlimiter.com. Freeproxy is used to create a proxy server which netlimiter can control. It also stops viruses and other junk from sending out data to the net as only port 80 can be accessed.
