Basic international roaming phone

Can someone please help me to find the following phone in the Johannesburg area:

1. A basic UNLOCKED GSM mobile phone which I can use with a pre-paid SIM card which is bought and used overseas.

2. The phone must not be network locked and should accept ALL pre-paid SIM cards (mainly in Singapore/Thailand/Malaysia).

I am sure I saw a "global phone" in one of the shopping malls in Joburg but now can't remember where I saw it.

Pitbull, Thanks for that. But where can I buy a phone that is NOT locked to a South African network?

I thought they were all unlocked. A little over-branded sometimes yes, but not handcuffed.

Skeptik, that's what I also thought until I got to Thailand and discovered my Vodacom phone would not work with the local SIMs. Last year I used an older Nokia phone in Thailand and it worked with the local SIMS. I am informed that Vodacom will "open" the phone to accept foreign SIMs --- but for a fee (like R200/300). What a bloody cheek?

I've never had any problems with any of my MTN phones being sim-locked... I saw a few shops where you can have your current phone unlocked (normally internet cafe-type places; there is one in Eikestadmall to the entrance of Ster-Kinekor in Stellenbosch)....
