South Africa.
"TV delivered into living rooms over broadband connections will completely disrupt TV as well as the internet as we know it, concludes a major report."

"The technology is currently more widespread in Europe than in the UK because of faster and cheaper broadband. But this is changing as UK net service providers up the minimum speeds of connections and prices fall.
NTL, for instance, is to boost the basic entry level for its broadband subscribers to 10Mbps next year. "

If only... :(

Most interesting.

Now lets get the SABC to subsidise the cost of broadband in South Africa :P

Bah,

Let's first see the SABC broadcast High Def .........

On that note, aren't we suppose to be broadcasting HD by the 2010 WC ?

Yeah were supposed to have one channel before to 2010 event, and all the broadcasting out of SA is supposed to be done in high def, and once the event is over they are thinking of implementing high def channels. But who knows this is South Africa after all.....

I'm sure i heard Sentech were asking Gov for about 300 mil to upgrade their equipment to digital from analogue, does digital automatically mean they can broadcast at higher resolutions ?

Hi guys, one of my master's projects was a review of SA's telecommunications capabilities for the 2010 World Cup and this is what I discovered about HDTV:

"FIFA requires the broadcast partner for the 2010 World Cup - the SABC - to provide facilities that allow participating broadcasters to output HDTV. The SABC will install the technology necessary to produce high-definition television in time for the soccer World Cup in 2010. Only overseas viewers will be able to watch the world cup in high-definition however. South Africans will have to wait until the 2014 soccer showcase, if not longer."

So 2014 at least for us :(

You're employed as a 'domestic executive' ? You dont have to call them "master" anymore you know :)

just kidding Simi ......

South Africans will have to wait until the 2014 soccer showcase, if not longer

Why do we have to wait for this event specifically ?

LOL "Master" Mccrack

I was specifically talking about when we would get to see the Soccer World Cup in HDTV :) As for when we will get HDTV in general it seems likely it will be soon after 2010 and slightly before 2014 ;)

Kalvaer, tisk tisk,

I'm disappointed you even ask such a question.

"You know it's the right thing to do"

LOL well I have my TV license.. But would I have to get another one because I can now get ADSL through my computer.. Even if I dont use it.. Or what if My business uses the TV through ADSL in our reception.. Must I get a TV license for every PC on my intranet?
