Morning all,

I need some help in finding the best bang for buck all-in-one printer for under R1000. I've done some reading on the forums and it seems like Canon is the way to go.

I've got access to Rectron - who only do HP and Xerox - which may mean I'd get more bang for buck than if I were to get a Canon from Makro, Game, Incredible etc.

What do you think?

Cheers :)

Makro occasionally has some crazy printer specials and they have a great return policy.

I am still using a HP PSC 2210 .... bought it in 2002/2003 ... never had a minute's problem with it ... so my advise would be to go for a HP

Dont disclude Epson - esp if you want to print photos.

I think I'll just stick to Rectron and HP. Won't actually be printing photos - mainly text stuff.

So I'll probably get the HP OJ-C4180 which I can get for R606.

Anyone object? ;)

What are the ink prices like?

We have a local Cartridge Hyper shop (it's in Lynwood Road), that sell cartridges for quite cheap, esp. if you buy the OEM cartridges, have yet to have problems with them and their R90 a cartridge (Epson Stylus Photo 870 it's a CMYK printer).

If you get tired of only buying "Manufacturer recommended" cartridges (IE. HP cartridges for a HP and Epson cartridges for Epson), that cost about 4x the price with no benefit except their perceived "warranty" that the cartridge will always work (The OEM ones have the same warranty). I'd look into one of these cartridge type places, honestly in the beginning I also bought into that special cartridge story but I honestly don't buy it anymore, they're just trying to make money.

As for printers my money is either HP or Epson, I've had more problems with HP, but other people I know have had more problems with Epson, so it's between them.

Btw what is the problem with Epson printing photo's? Ours looks fine?

Just my 2c ;)

Thanks for that Gnome, I'll look out for OEM cartridges. Nothing against Epson, just that Rectron here doesn't stock them, so they wouldn't be an option.

Okay, decided to take this one:

OJ-C4183 HP® PhotoSmart All-In-One C4183 (Print, Scan, Copy), Flatbed, 30ppm black, 24ppm colour- USB, Card Reader & PictBridge Support + Mini LCD

For R710 or so. Nice price :D

So do mine that's why I suggested them - who had a problem with Epson?
