Best firewall for home lan

You can do so. IPCop is a dedicated firewall. And it's better because you can see exactly what is coming in and going out...

But I prefer Smoothwall as the community is more active there.

Was checking Sygate's site to see if there are any updates for Sygate Personal Firewall, but I see the support for it has been canned.

What next? I have had no issues with my SPF setup, and obviously I am looking for something very similar to use next.

I am running XP
 
Well I did search for some info on google and 9 out of 10 times zone alarm came up as the best firewall so i got zone alarm security suite really neat comes with its own spyware and anti virus scanner and u can select what type of scanning even a bit scanning and it scans every bit in ur computer for a virus

So it would seem ... just downloaded the Zonealarm free one, so I'll see how it works for me

IMO to block incoming stuff from outside your LAN, use IPCop. To block stuff going out from each Windoze machine, use ZoneAlarm [free version] in combination with an IPCop box...or drop all you Windoze machines & reload them with Linux & put them behind an IPCop box...

Good choice there. I bought the biggest PC magazine in the UK (PC Pro) and they had a roundup of the various security suites and their only criticism was that it didn't have time based restrictions (this is more for the kids to control PC usage).
 
ZoneAlarm esp version 6 is slow bloated crapware ... lots of complaints.

Using Tiny Firewall, Avast and MS Antispyware to keep my machines clean.
 
D -Link has a new harware based firewall and anti spyware... just looks a bit expensive ....

Nice thing though is you don't have the overhead on your PC....
 
Dansguardian on Smoothwall also does anti-spyware... but should there be new spyware, you can pick it up in the logs, and block those sites from Dansguardian... works like a treat.
