That person is on truecaller. Not sure what your problem is?Do you think that person knows that their information was being put up there for the world to see? And do you think Truecaller asked that person's permission first? Yes you can request that your info be taken down (I have), but it should never be made public without the person's permission. Everything from linking a name to a phone number, to the person's email address, twitter name and facebook name is available. WITHOUT PERMISSION or NOTIFICATION. Truecaller is quite welcome to ask my permission and I am quite entitled to say no. But they are not entitled to mine a contact list, or many contact lists, to gather information about someone and then SELL that information on. By sell I mean you either pay for the app or they recoup money through ads.
Ask yourself this, would you be happy if your network allowed anyone to phone them and ask "Who does 083 123 4567 belong to and what is their email address?" and they replied "No problem."
That person is on turecaller. Not sure what your problem is?
You seem to miss the point about exactly what TrueCaller does. That person may not even know TrueCaller exists, or that their info is available to the world.
If you install TrueCaller, they start mining your contacts to link names to numbers (and email etc.) So say my name, number and email address are in your contacts. TrueCaller then "publishes" my name, number and email address to the world. They do not ask or let me know they are doing it. Someone else then enters my number on TrueCaller and can get all my info that they mined from your (and any other TrueCaller user's) phone.
If a complete stranger phones you and asking you to give them your name and email address, what choice of expletives would you use?
Maybe you wouldn't, but have you asked everyone else in your contacts list if they wouldn't mind?I wouldn't mind giving it out
Just because there are other ways of stealing info doesn't make what TrueCaller is doing any less wrong. It's like saying a business can take money from your bank account and it's ok because someone can just as easily steal your card and use it.with the countless of hacks and leaks
TruecallerWas bothered by Debt collectors calling themselves lawyers. They could not get the message that I do not have unpaid debt, finally after many months of threatening messages and calls I declared war on them. I can now proudly say that I have been 2 months harassment free.
Be the person that no one wants to call or SMS and thou shall receive no call or SMS.
I get at least 2 SMS's a day offering me a loan. Worst one is Direct Axis, as they are only offering me R150k, whereas all the other companies offer me over R200k.![]()
