Buying a graphics card from Amazon

Or as happened to me, I was forced to sign up as an importer, to receive a warranty replacement from Logitech. Courier was UPS.

There are many reasons why not, it would take a 1 page essay to explain it.

To break it down simply: Most of the items sold on Amazon.com isn't actually being sold by Amazon, they are being sold by 3rd party businesses that sell using Amazon.

Amazon themselves don't ship electronics to SA because it creates a bad customer experience and Amazon's highest and most valued principle is customer obsession (eg. customer is no.1).

3rd party companies don't care so much about the customers so they'll happily ship here. Keeping in mind that Amazon almost always sides with the customer when a complaint is filed. Hence most 3rd party companies won't ship here for fear of Amazon when the customer complains.

I thought I would give an update of my experience. I purchased the ASUS ROG MATRIX-HD7970-P-3GD5 from amazon.com. I paid R4900 for the card, R700 for shipping and R750 import tax (The total was R6350).

I paid the import tax to Amazon which allows UPS to deal with customs on my behalf. I ordered the card on the Monday and I received it on the Friday. Between that customs called me and asked for my ID on Wednesday and released the card Thursday.
