Since there seems to be so many second hand modems doing the rounds in the classifieds im sure someone can explain what the procedure is for transferring a modem from one person to another considering the modems are registered to a certain username and password only. Would it be the seller's responsibility to sort it out with the isp?

Good question, I think the first thing to ensure is that iBurst send you written confirmation that the previous owner owes them nothing.

I will be selling my “white” modem and flat panel antenna for R800 as soon as my month is up and I’m sure everything is settled.

Will let you guys know what the procedure is when I get to it.

This does not work, I tried to sell my contract and I got the customer for the contract when he went to my ISP they actually offered him his own contract.

Great work I got them another customer, I'm still waiting for my commision you @#%^@. If someone gets it right let me know how to go about it.

I have processed a number of modem transfers and contract transfers for myself as well as others. Its not difficult but it does tend to be less hassle if you process it through a reseller that knows the procedure.

I know the procedure... and i'm now a reseller :D PM me if you'd like any assistance.

so ambo you looking for a cut of the pie there? if i could be arsed i would sell my modem.

Well, I asked the question because I'll soon be putting my modem up for sale aswell. Decided to stop beating round the bush n joined the dark side.
Must say it was a bit quicker than expected... It apparently only took half a day between application and the adsl activiation! :D

Try the anti-iburst site as well. They have a classifieds section on there too.

Ambo you serious? Is iBurst actually selling that good?

I'm sure they are, you have to remember there are a lot of "suckers" out there that do not know about this shady company.

Until this goes public there will always be new "suckers" for them to rip off.

I can't deny that iBurst have their faults... even I myself am currently having a fight with their accounts department.

But the reality is that everyone wants broadband and for many people iBurst is exactly what they want. Here on MyADSL we know all about 'real' broadband and what it should be like but for many users who are coming from either dial-up connections or even no connection at all, iBurst is a huge leap forward for them.

As shocking as this may sound - I have customers who are over the moon with a Play-Special package and it fulfils their needs.

Not comparing iburst to ADSL since you can't, it's like comparing dialup to iburst.

They have their faults for sure and it's got nothing to do with that actual iburst system since it is a good system as far as wireless goes, it's the way they run that business that most are complaining about.

You might have customers "over the moon" with iburst, but just wait until they try to leave or get overcharged then it will be a different story.

ambo - I keep my modem in the hope that maybe one day the iBurst technology will be all it can be and it again becomes a seriously viable option. PM me with how much you offer for 2nd hand grey/cream modems. If the offer is tempting enough I suppose even my hope will have to take a back seat.

milomak,

don't get your hopes up about keeping your modem for future use. iBurst MAX rate will only ever be 1Mb (if they ever will manage to get past 500 K/b). Not only the limit, but in 2 years from now, would you really want to use that speed? Already HSDPA is making huge inroads. I switched to it and I get speeds of up to 1.2Mb down. In the last 3 months my iBurst average download speed was 35 kbps. Even telkom landline modem is faster than that.

Agreed, iBurst tech isnt so bad, i rather like it. Problem comes in with the company iBurst. I got horribly annoyed that c&c3 was blocked. Then I got double charged for march, and then i was charged for a "upgrade fee" for some arb reason. My emails i sent in got ignored, only when i posted on the (usually broken) iburst forum did I get a reply to my issue. I've had it so I've started the month with 0GB free. The company frustrated me no end to a point where I went into the offices to cancel my m2m because it was fruitless any other way. Even in canceling my m2m they said I owed R170 to cancel (which I reminded them I was m2m).
