Whats the price for the ethernet cable that will work under Linux?

Hi

Ethernet cable is generic, so it will work under Linux, Windows or any other flavour of OS

The price depends on the length, a reasonable length (5 metres) with 2 connectors (on on each end) should set you back around R20 to R35.

One has to presume that you mean the modem cable, yes? ..that being the case, friend rsachoc here is just a teeny li'l bit off the mark  - according to NoWire's products page, said modem cable is R225 - and you can get one from your nearest available Broadband Zone store.

FYI, while on the topic (and this brings in regular CAT5 cable & RJ45/wallboxen), once you have your modem connected by its Ethernet cable you're entirely welcome to extend it out to 100m ...should you have a need to do so of course! Oh- and I can now say that you can also CUT the cable to make it shorter than the 5' (or so) and crimp on a new RJ45 connector ..I know 'cos I just did it a couple of weekends ago.

Thanks...yes I meant the modem cable. In the linux part was more like saying "since there's no driver for the USB cable". :)

Oops, didnt see it was the MyWireless forum...

Thanks bdt, for the correction

Quickly, before TheRoDent sees that his Magnus Opus :p (rodent.za.net)* is being overlooked and ... fr0ths! Seriously, he HAS written a Linux driver, but being a *NIX n00b in the WORST way I can't advise you one way or t'other as to how well they may work for you; it's very much a case of YMMV, AFAIK.

* takes you to rodent.za.net, which points to TWO different locations for files & documentation; don't ask me why it's organised like that, clearly he Has A Plan(tm) .. *duck*

Anyhow, if you're brave/able/Know Your Stuff(tm), MyWi on Linux over USB is apparently possible - but even clueless clots like yours truly can get it to work with the Ethernet cable!

The MyWireless USB driver is included in any Distro with a kernel above 2.6.12, such as Ubuntu, Or debian testing. Alternatively you can get the latest version, and build instructions at http://www.neology.co.za/products/opensource/ipwireless/

The Ethernet cable is around R220 or so from any of the http://www.nowire.co.za/ stores countrywide.

/me takes a swing at BDT :)

And in Fedora Core 5?Havent had a chance to check even though I've just completed the installation.
