Can we arrange an interview with Sentech?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if it would be possible to arrange an interview with Sentech. Therefore all us ADSL user, will have a better understanding of how the Sentech's broadband service will operate. Im sure this will benefit all users as well as Sentech.

What you guys think?

Lo all.

I just got an email from a lady at Sentech (yes, i got a reply, and whatsmore, i only sent her an email yesterday - They deffinetly already got something on Telkom!) explaining a bit about the service, but nothing we don't already know.

From the email:

The Broadband Wireless product set is currently being defined. The expected launch for this product is end November 2003. The product set will contain various options based on the send and receive bandwidth and other parameters and will be offered as both a residential and business offering. It will serve as a wireless local loop thus providing Internet directly to the home/ business user. This means that the end user will not require any Telkom infrastructure to provide Internet connectivity to their desired premises.

The product will be rolled out in selective metropolis initially but the coverage of other areas will follow (dependant on density, financial viability and market demand).

Unfortunately this is all that I am able to share right now, but please feel free to email Winston Smith and or watch for updates on our website for more information closer to the launch of the product .

I have left Mr Smith's email off, but you can get it from their website. I think An interview with them is a good idea though.

One thing that did worry me was this

Does that mean there is going to be a cap?

Well I got a direct mail from Mr Smith(sounds like I'm in the matrix) and it seems that the service WILL NOT have a cap how long it stays that way isn't set in stone but it seems like the plan is not to impliment a cap on the service

Contacted Winston Smith and he says "NO Capping is envisaged for the BroadBand Wireless service".

I don't know how much the South African community knows about wireless so I did a search on Wireless internet and came up with the positive outlooks for Wireless access if you want to see it find it here:

I know they are making this out to be the best in the world but I'm sure there are issues with the technology if you look hard enough but they do point out the flaws in Copper/Cable and Fiber Optic compared to Wireless internet

It sounds as if they will have similar options to leased line, where you can purchase the 64,128,256 or 512 option and hopefilly also a 1024 option (can only hope that 512 actually means 512 and not 212 as with telkom)

Even if they only have one option at the same price as ADSL, as long as they can give me a Service level agreement that i am assured of at least 256k, with an assured ping time to UDS East cost of less than 500ms and with packet loss asured to be less than 5%, i would be very eager to switch to their product.

I would also be very eager for structured packages that is almost a Pay as you go, where they measure my bandwidth usage(acurately) and charge me accordingly. This way if you are a bandwidth hog like me you can just pay for what you use.

Your pings to the US East coast will be over 500ms as you are Routed through a satellite to international sites so expect around 600-700ping as for local sites I heard they have an IS line(wish we has the SNO then they could have used the Transtel line already set up but hey thats a monopoly for you) and they got that at a good price so your pings nationally will be 40-60ms thats what I guess from your home to the furthest part of South Africa(very good if you think my ISDN gets 70-120) As for the 1Mbit or 1024kbps download I will find out a little later what the ranges will be and let you know(mailing sentech I'm sure that I'm one of many)
