Hi there

I've been playing Guild Wars successfully (or rather, as successfully as you can on SA shaped ADSL :p ) on and off since it first came out. Over the last three weeks I've played every night with an average ping of 500ms, which is pretty playable, and it's only ever spiked when someone else on my line does excessive browsing.

On Sunday I started experiencing heavy lag spikes and when I logged out on Sunday night I've been unable to get back in at all. It just hangs on the "Connecting to AreaNet" screen. Out of the 100 times I've tried it's managed to get past that about 3 times, and after entering my password it just hangs on the "Connecting" screen again. Only once it's given me an error (CODE=007).

I've not changed anything at all on my system, network or router, and all my friends in other countries can still play the game without problems, which leads me to believe it's an SA (or even my line) fault.

I've contacted my ISP, Telkom and my modem manufacturer (Telkom told me that my line runs through the DSLAM to Marconi, and that they control ports limitations, something which I'm not sure I believe entirely).

I'm really not sure what to do anymore as I really enjoy playing but am getting fed up with the (lack of) service.

My details are as follows:
ISP - WebAfrica Shaped 3GB
Line - Telkom
Router - Marconi 4 port ADSL router connected to the network via a switch

Has anyone else had any problems lately, or is it just me?

Thanks
Moonfruit

Hmm...shortly after getting off the phone with those three people I can now get into the game (with a bit of a delay at the "Connecting to AreaNet" screen). I can even enter my password and log into my account.

The problem is whenever I select a character I immediately get a CODE=007 error :(

Any suggestions?

Thanks

No idea, just to add that I'm on Iburst at the moment getting those kind of pings, and have had no issues any night since Sunday getting online.

Not any such problems, just lag, but this was explained by ANET to be a router in Germany that was faulty which caused problems for a lot of GW players. This was fixed by the 17th already though...

Your symptoms are very familiar to what I have also found from time to time.

It is either a firewall / connectivity issue (which can be sorted out by disabling all firewalls and trying another internet conneciton, GPRS, 3G, etc... you just want to see if it will work)
or
it is a problem with the gw.exe or gw.dat files.
Do some check disk and see if your disk is healthy, defrag your system.
If this fails, then you can try and insert "- diag" in the shortcut for the launcher, this will run a diagnostics on your connection and save it to a file in your GW directory.

What you can also try is to perhaps replace your gw.dat file with someone else's, hopefully someone who has got a latest gw.dat.
Failing this, replace all the files from a working copy, even the gw.exe file.

There are other options as well, like reinstalling / repairing GW, just backup your gw.dat file beforehand.
You can also install from scratch, but all content will be downloaded again if you don't replace the gw.dat file.

All the above has helped me in the past in some way or another.

I'm on WebAfrica too.

Well I don't think its Firewall related, as I've only been using the built-in Windows one for as long as I can remember.

I've also done a Defrag and ScanDisk. Didn't get any errors, but it also didn't seem to help.

I've tried using the Guild Wars diag utility, but that passes all its tests. When I tried re-installing the game, however, it again gets stuck on the "Connecting to ArenaNet" bit during installation :/

You reinstalled over existing copy?
Well, that narrows it down a bit ... then I'd go with it definitely being a problem with either the GW launcher or the gw.dat file.
Can still backup the gw.dat file, uninstall completely, reinstall and move the gw.dat file back.

1/ If all else fails, log a call with ANet.
2/ Uninstall GW, Install GW again and download all the content again (failing trying to find a operational backup gw.dat file).

as far as I can remeber, GW EU had to fix some sort of problem, If it worked before and all of a sudden stoped working, and you have not made any Sofware/Hardware changes it is 99.99% a GW problem

Support Update Planned

The Guild Wars Support Pages will be taken offline tonight, July 30, for an upgrade beginning at 10:00 PM Pacific (-7 GMT). During the period of the upgrade, players will not be able to access the Knowledge Base or submit Support tickets. Please check back after the upgrade—which is estimated to require less than eight hours—in order to use the system.

im having major problems too..i cant do much..on my webafrica account(saix)..but i can play fine on my openweb IS account..my game just hangs on the connecting screen with my webafrica account..such a load of Sh**

and i pass the diagnostics test with my webafrica account so i dont understand..sometimes i cant even get past the arenanet loading screen

i dont get it ! hope this problem gets solved!

I agree with Lydon.IMy configuration settings are same to yours, but having no problem.

I dont play the game but I guess the best test would be to take your box to a friends house with a different connection and see if it works. Routers do sometimes forget their settings but Im sure you have rebooted it a few times. Do you need to enable port forwarding to play the game?
Have you googled your errors?

Something else you could try is to just totally reset your router. You'll have to obviously set it up again. I've been having problems since last Friday, so last night I decided to reset the router to see what would happen. Since then everything has been working perfectly.

I cant connect to ANY online games today for some reason.

Wow, UO, GW, Americas Army.

Nothing I try makes any difference.

My friends who live in my area cant connect either.

Anyone know whats going on?
