Can't get receive emails or connect to MIRC

I had my router set up so that I basically use it to dial up to internet. Then I changed it now,since i was told it is safer to have it set up as a LAN connection.
If I set it up this way(the normal way everyone has it, LAN) I can't get my emails through Outlook Express and I can't get into MIRC.
Any one know anything about this?
 
Is your IRC set up to use any sort of proxy? Any kind of firewall software running that might block it? Any other changes to your system since you did the router changes?
 
1 word, firewall. disable it or the lans (depending if its home or work) and try mirc,if it works then its the firewall.
 
well I'm using Windows Firewall and AVG antivirus.
Any idea where I need to change that.
I am not using a proxy as far as I can make out..
I haven't had this problem before, it is only after I changed my adsl setup to connect through LAN. Previously I connected as if it was a dial up connection.
It worked fine before..??
 
On your PC open a dos window and type:
ipconfig /all

You will get output something like this:

The one that might be an issue is the default gateway. That should be the IP address of the router on your LAN. If it is not, then you need to fix it in the TCP/IP setting for the LAN connection. You either have to specify the right address by typing it in for the TCP/IP settings, or if you have it set to be obtained automatically, your router might also be able to give the PC the right one via DHCP.

You should not have to do port forwarding for Outlook to work. I do not know for MIRC.
 
no i did it for mirc
My email probelm was my own stupidity, had to change connection settings in AVG email scanner.
and..
I have dhcp disabled now, put in my own ip.
it's all good now..
