Can't see the data on my external hard drive

If you click on Disk Management, on the bottom-right pane you should see the the disks in numbered order. Right-click the disk (on the right-hand side which shows the drive letters of the other drives) which represents the drive and choose Change Drive Letter and Path.
 
Just put the drive in my new PC and the same thing is happening so its not the external case, its the drive. I can't select the option to change drive letter.
 
How do i run data recovery and will i be able to get everything off it?

Edit: I can only select delete partition in computer management, will the data still be recoverable?
 
Is this drive even spinning up? Give a bit more specs. I would say the problem could be a power to drive issue. I doubt the slave/master/cs setting makes a difference if it is an external drive running through USB. Totally different ballgame afaik. Before formatting anything I would simply plug out the drive from the external chassis and install it as per normal, get the important stuff off of it and then experiment. Obviously slave/master/cs settings will then matter, but afterwards you can fix the issues. My bet is on power to the drive issues... It could be a long shot, but reading this thread you have been doing everything but destroy the drive... :)
 
Your drive is now configured as a USB Mass Storage device and it is rather fundementally different from how IDE is handled ... notice there is no concept of tracks or heads or sectors.

Put drive back in your PC and backup it to CDROM and then reformat it in the enclosure.
