CERN to start up

  Surely you knew CERN is also the reason we have internet today?
The US department of defence is responsible for creating the Internet. Cern is responsible for creating the WWW, big difference - WWW is a subset of the Internet...

and now your spilting hairs  Without the invention by Tim Berners-Lee, there is a really big chance the "internet" would not have evolved into what it is now.. but that debate is for another thread

Nope. IP was already in big demand by computer companies for data transfer and interconnectivity a good while before the WWW came about. Many people, like you, regard the Internet and the WWW as synonymous - they are definitely not.

Kalvaer, Big-Al is correct. WWW is but one protocol supported by TCP/IP but it was invented by Tim Berners Lee while he was at CERN.

Also, what does your wife do at CERN?

My Original comment was made as a joke to somebody joking about A&D. Thank you for pointing out my flawed logic to me, especially after I already said that the WWW debate was for a different thread. Many major companies might have wanted internet, but it was WWW that took it public for us "simple" people and turned it into the multi billion dollar industry it is today... IMHO of course

Never denied it. Just forgot that "people like me" cant make general statments in jest to others without scrutiny. I could also mention the paper by Leonard Kleinrock who inspired,Larry Roberts' work with ARPA, and blah blah blah, but whats the point???

She is a PHD student working at the ATLAS experiment investigating the performance of the muon detector.
