Hi all

I am looking for the cheapest EDGE capable data card (PCMCIA or USB) I see Cell C is selling their EDGE card for R1299.

Are there any better one out there, in terms of capabilities (i.e 3G or cheaper)?

Thanks
Choc

Occasionally there are these... http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/jsp/item/Item.jsp?Trade_TradeId=2499585
But If I were you, I would just get the Motorola V360 for R650 + R150 v/com starter pack at Game. It does edge and uses mini USB cable - cheap.

Oh... and use VM for bandwidth @ 50c per meg without contracts!

Thanks, is this the setup you are using? It actually sounds like an excellent idea, my mom needs a new phone anyway

Where did you get the V360 from? And roughly how much does the mini-usb cable cost?

Thanks!

From Game (current special -I don't see it online, but the flyer I got at home has this price - maybe a regional special for East London). I pay R25 for the mini USB and the software is freely available on the web. Yes, i am using it - very nice.
I see digitalplanet sells the mini usb cable and phone tools in a package, or the mini usb on its own. It's just a bog-standard mini-usb, so dunno why they market it as "motorola" - twits.
Incredible ripoff may also sell them, as well as Game, but I recommend you get it from your regular computer shop - usually farrrrr cheaper.
As for the software: http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?type=contains&file=motorola&action=Find
You don't actually need the full suite, just the modem driver, then set up a new dial-up connection with no user name or password and the number *99#

Thank you kindly sir

Did a bit of phoning, Hi Fi corp has the V360 for R779 inc an MTN starter pack. The mini-usb is R60, so a pretty good deal if you can handle going into a Hi Fi corp

Just don't get hit by those low prices!

Motorola v360

Hey guys, tell me, does this motorola v360 support bluetooth? And if I'm right, this phone also support edge. So what dailup number do I use to connect via edge? Actually I wanted a 3g phone, but damm, my budged is tight.

Thanks, so if Iunderstand right, the phone desides self to connect to edge if there's signal, but to gprs if there's not?
