I think we must be given a wider choice (provided iburst performs as promised) for example have a 500 kbps connection with a 6 gig cap, for the same price as a 1000kbps connection with 3 gig cap. I am not very technical inclined so I don't know how this option will affect the bandwidth, maybe the more informed users can comment on this.

Sorry to hijack your thread Ares, but how much can u download with a 64kbps line in a month (in theory)?

stepper: according to the helpdesk people at IBurst today, when I asked them this question - on a 64k line, anything up to 20 gigs a month - but this wont be considered 'abuse' in future. So they say..

You could potentially download 17Gigs per month.

(((64/8-1)*(60*60*24*30))/1024)/1024

The -1, is for protocol overhead.

...and yet 10 GB is considered abuse, somebody messed up in their planning!

Thats just download, you can still upload at 128k if I'm not mistaken? Or is the throttle working on that too?

Yes i know, thats why I said, calculating download alone won't help you get to the actual figure that will be on your bandwidth monitor.

So if you take 17 gig up and down (I think it's full duplex, might be wrong) you're looking at a combined rate of 34gig. Which would probably suprise a few people at WBS, seeing as the guys who do these calculations probably have grade 2 math.... and even then, I think grade 2 math kids would probably be able to figure it out.

So apparently 10 GB is the 'cut-off' for 3 GB package, so whats the limit for 1,6 & 9 GB packages?

But technically IBurst Helpdesk and Shaun Green are saying that from here on, there is no 'cut off' for any packages, merely a move of the customer to the throttled service, and thereafter no further disconnections, regardless of their downloads.

Or did I miss a meeting?

No, probably is my misunderstanding of this situation.
After numerous calls to and from the Helpdesk is that 10 GB is abuse so it warrants a suspension.

So they're advertised and contracted to provide unlimited 64k throttled download after the cap is reached, but are saying that they'll disconnect (and force users to pay extra money) if they DO use what IBurst have agreed to provide?

Come on, there must be ONE lawyer here (or Forumite with access to a lawyer) willing to begin firing off letters and instituting legal proceedings at IBurst?

This is clearly an illegal action and situation that IBurst are putting their customers into.

Count me in for a thousand bucks towards this.

That was a "once-off" while the bandwidth management controls were not in place. Now they are in place, so it is back to plan "A", the original deal. 3GB at 1Mbit, 64k throttled thereafter, and no limit.

My theory: This week, on the day of the suspensions, WBS threw out their self-built buggy Mickey Mouse system, put their hands into their wallets, and installed an expensive, off-the-shelf, tried and tested, third party, bandwidth monitor.

Management thinking: Crisis over. Lots of ruffled feathers. Leave it for time to heal.
