ok im using GNS3 to emulate my cisco router. the specific series is the C3600. now in GNS3 you can connect the virtual router to your physical ethernet connection which then lets you access the internet. reason im doing this is so i can let a friend of mine telnet into it since he cant get it working on his machine...

what ive done is my real network uses the 192.168.1.0 Network ID so 192.168.1.1 being my dsl router, .2 being my machine .3 being my TFTP server for the cisco images etc. so what ive done is i gave my sim router 192.168.1.6 and set the DNS and gateway of last resort to my real router (192.168.1.1) to which the router says "OK". everythig is using the default /24 subnet mask and ive setup the network route to 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

i can ping all the machines on my network with the sim as well as save my configs on my tftp server. on the internt side i can resolve dns names into ip's e.g google.com but i cant ping any ip on the internet. it just simply times out every time.

any suggestions?

Set your default route to 192.168.1.1.

If it is set to 0.0.0.0 it will see everything on the local network, and do DNS resolution, because your real router does the work.
