Clone an OS assistance

Lol with a child proof OS, a lot easier to do, then with windows, however this has been slowly but surely changing, with windows lately, they have really started stepping up their game in protecting vital aspects of system files and such.It has be come much harder to "break" some system files, not that it doesn't happen. But since I have been using windows 10, I have only gotten ONE BSOD, and that was related to AMD driver issue. I think it has been 3 1/2 years now. One hardware issue related to a cisco wifi dongle mickeysoft, didn't like......and that is about it.

HOWEVER TROLL, I fell for your tricks.......shame on me :P

Wasn’t trolling.

But I do agree I don’t recall having a BSOD on either Windows 10 or 11.

Okay troll, you know iam pulling your leg, right ? With operating systems each to their own. It is generally when people start advocating and insisting their OS is the best thing since sliced bread, were I have a difference of opinion.Unlike other folks, you stay decently neutral, I prefer not getting involved with apple versus the world debate it never ends well....

Will have to wait and see how the cloning goes tomorrow, might be delayed have some work to do with the PC as is tomorrow

In the process of cloning the ssd. Connected the new SSD externally to restore the clone, will see if that works first after which I will connect directly to the system in case there is issues.....

The clone worked flawlessly.

Using the new SSD right now without issue, just the issue of extending the volume, busy downloading. gparted. But just incase, gparted makes a mess of things, I downloaded the latest version of windows 10 image from mickeysoft, used rufus to mount the image, busy mounting the gparted image with rufus to USB stick. Will see how that goes after, which I will probably just do a fresh install.

Don’t need third party tools.

Just do it with diskmgmt.msc.

What’s wrong with making it dynamic? You don’t have more than one boot volume so it’s no problem.

Yeah gparted can't do it for some reason. windows disk man, gave an error when you attempt expand the volume. So will have to start, out fresh again.

*edit

Sigh fml, I just did a disk copy, and restored that to the new SSD.......What I should have done is clone, and extend the partition like below.....busy with that right now....oh well should work flawlessly now.

*EDIT

Done booting from it now. Just have to add back the rest of the drives, in future you should choose clone a drive, as that allows you to expand the volume if you are using a larger drive

Issue is the partition location, partition wiz can handle it
Yeah it has to be right next to the volume you want to extend, otherwise gparted and windows throws a fit. I am actually not so sure you can fix it without breaking the rescue volume and such first. The solution that worked flawlessly and allows, extending the C drive is a live clone to the new drive. The software automatically detects the amount of space or you can set the space you want to use.

Windows is completely unaware that you swapped out the SSD, other then you have installed a new SSD.

Macrium reflect, is the boss, and will be using it to create snapshots of the drive in future, for offline storage.Definitely highly recommend it, especially for doing a live clone.

See

It can shuffle and resize partitions online (just not Bitlocker)
I recently changed SSDs and had to move and resize 2 partitions

Gotta say that EaseUS Todo Backup handled all of the resizing etc. as part of the cloning operation :)

Yeah you can technically queue that in on Macrium too,but now it's a post-operative fix needed

Please let me know what you did to update the UUID of the new physical drive. What im thinking is in future uninstalling the RST And AHCI drivers and then reinstalling them, then proceeding to the base version upgrade.

BTW something I discovered after the fact on the cloned drive Is that every thing on the clone, has been set to readonly, don't think it would cause much issues, will have to wait and see if any program has issue with it.
