CoD2 CVAR rate

Hi

I played CoD2 last night but was kicked off by punkbuster.
I had a warning message displayed : " cvar rate =25000 must be 3000-8000"

What does that mean?
I have never played CoD2 over internet before and are out of my depth.

Help would be cool.

you have to bring down your console (by pressing the "~" key) and type in : /rate 8000
