Comparing performances of different laptops

2 x 1gb DIMMs I think. But its a 32bit OS so I dont mind. Anyway, like I said, this one is getting me through for now. When I do upgrade I would definitely look for i3. But just incase old faithful dies unexpectantly I wanna know if I'm atleast buying an equivalent laptop.

My suggestion is, if you want to improve performance noticeably without busting the bank, just buy yourself another stick of ram and a 2ndhand 256gb SSD for around R1500 total expenditure, and upgrade the OS to 64-bit. That's the cheapest option you have by far. However, the laptop is definitely very old and the hardware could give in on you.

That's a great suggestion thanks. What connector does a SSD use? Honestly the performance is okay. I'm reluctant to invest in it coz hardware could give out.

The SSD can just be swapped out from the HDD, it's the same SATA connectors. You'll see a major speed boost, and if hardware gives out, you can just pass the SSD onto the next laptop.
