Complaint to MTNSP

Well, I was seriously looking at pointing a lot of our reps in the MTN direction but after keeping a beady eye on the forums there is no way I would do that now. For the guys out in the sticks using GPRS, its just a bit too slow so EDGE would be great, without product support it's just not worth it!

Depends where in the stix - cos Vodacom have coverage in some pretty rural places. In KZN, I believe they have 3G in places like Richards Bay, Empangeni, Newcastle, Ladysmith, Estcourt, Vryheid. In the Freestate places like Vrede, Harrismith, Bethlehem and even in QwaQwa. So it looks pretty much like before too long they will have 3G coverage in many more of the more remote places. Maybe they know what they are doing in spending money on 3G rather than Edge.

I have used my 3G datacard, while travelling, in all the towns mentioned above in KZN and it works like a dream. And in other places where thay have not had 3G, the GPRS speeds seemed quite fast.

Krugersdorp Coverage

Yello,

Krugersdorp CBD is being rolled out at the moment with EDGE, it should be up and running. As far as 3G it is planned for 1'st quarter next year.

I think there is currently a lot of changes happening at MTN in terms of new technologies etc. As I understand the MTNSP staff are currently being trained to provide first class support (including data) for all MTN products to clients. I personally think that MTN provides a far better service (not support) to their clients. I can understand that a lot of clients are unhappy about the fact that MTN does not have the same 3G coverage as Vodacom, but look at the quality of the service first.

Also as MTN3G stated, MTN is in the process of rolling out more 3G sites. But one thing I must ask from MTN: please hurry up with the training and start to provide the degree of support that your clients expect. And please appoint some more trained call centre operators, I really do not like to hold on for 20-50 minutes just to ask a few questions.

Holding on 1761 for more than 60 minutes (so far at the moment), not having posts on their contact us page requesting a response answered makes them appear very unprofessional.

The impression given is that they have so many problems that they can't cope and if this is so it makes one very wary of renewing ones contract. Maybe it's time to give the other operator a try ...

/Edit Now been holding for 125 mins and still waiting Edit/

coppersa, what do you mean by this statement? What quality of service?

And so is Vodacom - what are you trying to say?

As I have it quite a lot of users (in the PTA area at least) are complaining about the quality of 3G services provided by Vodacom. Basically meaning that these users ares struggling to connect or their connection is dropped etc etc.

As for coverage, Vodacom has far greater 3G coverage than MTN does at this stage, a plus for them, but does that really matter if you cannot connect or stay connected? Maybe this is being addressed, but so far it is my experience that MTN's service quality is better by far. I must also mention that most of MTN's sites provide EDGE, so if you do not have 3G coverage, you can probably still connect reliably to EDGE at a not to bad speed.

I personally think that MTN and Vodacom still need a lot of work on the Data side regarding coverage and availability and of course in training their support staff at MTNSP or to provide a proper trained helpdesk.

Thank you for the reply....any time frame for EDGE in CBD? 6 days since your post and no sign of it...Just for our info, how long does it take for EDGE to be up and running?

Following this post (and some of my own data problems with MTN) I have come to a conclusion: I am getting another Vodacom contract with a data bundle for my wife (who runs my one business while I am consulting to other companies).

It appears that MTN does not 'know' that they are in the game, nor that they are losing it.

VMS

PS: MTN3G.... Vodacom3G has personally called to help me, probably at his own cost, within 12 hours (sometimes less). I will support Vodacom even when their SMTP and/or data counter/balances servers go down (which you, BTW, don't have).
