Connected to tower 9Km away

Amazing

Ilost signal fom my normal tower and my antenna picked up a tower 9Km away

So I thought no way will it connect, but thought for fun why not try

And here I am connected to tower 12 Mintek from 9 Km away with 10 % signal [8D]
 
hehe I wouldn't mention that incase they decide to go fix the tower :P
 
Ping times are much longer though

So back on normal tower
 
Why would ping times be longer? Isn't the extra radiowave travel time virtually negligible? Hmm .. 3.3 kilometers out of 'normal range', that's 0.000011 seconds longer each way.
 
Just ran 1 test which showed slightly longer pingtimes than I remember

Maybe everything was just slow ?

But I get far better signal on my normal tower

Ping now was average 30ms faster
 
Yea, tower 82 dropped tonight, had a 2nd level techie go out and reboot it for me :(

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Well thank you. I'm assuming you're referring to 82 Honeydew. Now I know why my signal magically reappeared!
 
yep, 82 honeydew, could pick up all the towers too far out of range and figured something to be wrong... techie said "There is nothing he knows of that is wrong with 82, but people have been calling in to complain, so he'll check it out"

Pings won't increase due to the "air-travel" time. Due to the weaker signal over that distance, it is probable that the modem will have to retransmit quite a lot in order to get frames through without corruption. This is likely the cause of the increase in ping over that distance.
