Hi there,

My friend next door has a wireless connection which I can pick up great. It is an unsecure connection but I cannot connect to it. We both have service pack 2 installed and have tried turning off all antivirus progs & firewalls but I still cannot connect.

Does my mac address HAVE to be registered on his router for me to be given acccess or is there anyway around this?

Many thanks for your help :p

Make sure you IP adress & your subnet mask tie in with whatever your friend is using.

No need for your MAC address to be registered, as long as he has MAC filtering turned off and DHCP turned on it "should" work. The easiest way to sort this out is to carry your computer to his house and hook it up with an ethernet cable directly to his wireless router. Get it going with a cable then unplug it and it should be OK.
