Connection problems

hey guys

Ive got ADSL 384 and been having these weird problems. every 2 hours or so my connection just cuts out and comes back about a minute later. Its very irritating coz it happens all the time now, when im playing games online, downloading stuff, using msn messenger or just browsing. Sometimes (not very often though) it cuts out for like 20 min, and sometimes (not always) turning the router off and on fixes the problem.

and also i cant access my router settings (10.0.0.2 in the web browser), it just doesnt load. Please can someone help? im no techie so i'll need a basic explanation if possible. thanks

If you describe your modem/router (brand/model/firmware), computer OS, connection and ISP more clearly, you will get help more easily

ok sure, its that telkom-labeled adsl router, and thats all i know (not my choice but it was free so... ). Windows XP, and im getting these problems with both East Coast access and Axxess.

For you to access the router, you will have to adjust your network settings to reflect the network the router's browser functions on. In other words, if your PC's IP is 192.168.0.1 and the Router browser IP is 10.0.0.2 you will have to change your PC IP to something like 10.0.0.3 and so forth...

It is a temporary thing and you can change back... if you want.

10, 172.16-172.31, and 192.168.0-192.168.255 are used for private networks that will never be connected to the global Internet.

PS. The disconnections might be a router issue. Are you using the provided power supply? Make sure everything is in nice and tight and if all else fails borrow another router to test... If this doesn't pan out or you need more help, come back and let us know and also phone Telkom for their opinion explaining that you tried a different router...
