Since this afternoon EVERY page / site I've tried has to be loaded twice. The first time around, the browser just kicks up a message that it couldn't connect, then you just reload and it works. Very annoying. Anyone else getting this?

Yes, I think it's proxy / cache related, got a message that iBurst cache is shutting down...

Yep, I have been getting the same thing happening for a couple of hours now, this is what SWE2's Squid tells me, then I hit Reload in FireFox 1.0.2 and it usually works, although some pages I've had to hit reload up to 6 times before the page loads...

Please note that this is any site - not a mybroadband.co.za problem - it is an WBS iBurst problem (even if that means upstream @ UUNET or IS...).

Also at work on the office network (UUNET, I think). I've had load many things twice before they will work. There seems to be a national connectivity problem today.

haha,
seems like most of us are having this prob. guess we will just have to wait until iburst finishes with the installation of more bandwidth

Please, more info - where / how did that message come through - I don't have such an email, nothing on the Incidents page (not that I can see)...

Please quote & post this mysterious communique ;)

But my point is that I'm getting this problem at work. I'm not even using Iburst.

lol! If it's not WBS, it's UUNET or IS or Telkom or ...!!! I think we need to approach MR Shuttleworh. South Africa needs an ubuntu pipe - THEN it will be tata ma telkom! :p

An iBurst page was displayed that stated something to the effect that the cache was shutting down, please try again later. Just glanced at the page and refreshed, then realised I should have copied it :(
My initial thought that it was a custom squid error page or something

Last night I noted that my msn disconected all the time. and then could not get to pages, this happend all night.

Okay! I've just been getting messages like this trying to access various web pages:

Code:
The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/search.php?

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for www.mybroadband.co.za

The dnsserver returned:

    Timeout

This means that:

The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.

Mysterious indeed.

yes this afternoon/evening they were definatly playing with a cache server, I got a couple of those cache messages. I mean on the one hand its inconvenient but on the other if they have a couple days to get it working right it could be exactly what WBS needs, caching is the most effective way of reducing load and increasing speed in all parts of computer science, so I'll give em a little leeway.

I just hope its not some mickey mouse job and it ends up being totally invisible, if I don't know its there then its doing its job perfectly

Code:
>tracert [url]www.mybroadband.co.za[/url]

Tracing route to mybroadband.co.za [196.35.73.169]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 388 ms 155 ms 93 ms 196.30.31.100
  2 108 ms 46 ms 46 ms 192.168.0.97
  3 171 ms 77 ms 61 ms fe6-1.gw10.jnb6.alter.net [196.30.31.254]
  4 187 ms 62 ms 61 ms fe1-0.br1.jnb7.alter.net [196.31.17.162]
  5 77 ms 61 ms 140 ms as3741.rba.is.co.za [196.30.228.242]
  6 77 ms 187 ms 108 ms 196.26.0.20
  7 153 ms 140 ms 155 ms drax.co.za [196.35.73.169]

Trace complete.

Can we assume that 192.168.0.97 (should be private) is their cache?

i dont think so because the cache server had a hostname and that IP you mentioned cant be resolved. The hostname for me was cache-01.jhb.wbs.co.za which resolves to 196.30.31.242

also did you guys notice we have new IP blocks? its no longer just 196.46.*.* Theres like 196.1.** and 196.2.96.*

those arent the specific block ranges but the ranges they have bought fall on those blocks. So I guess even though communication to customers is not exactly flowing, it seems like our messages got to them and they seem to be doing alot of stuff over there.
