Hi,

Ok well my ADSL line is going to be connected on wednesday, and i was just wanting to play around with my modem and see how the settings and all work. Does the modem have to be connected to the DSL line as well? Cause every time i type in the default IP address in IE it gives me page not found. I also tried on my laptop that has never had a internet connection on it, and i get a no internet connection available message. I have set up my NIC to use DHCP. Anyone can help? Im pretty sure you dont need to have the ADSL line connected as well to view the settings otherwise it would be pretty useless having the DHCP server function.

Please help me

You're right you don't need the ADSL line connected. Did you buy the modem BRAND new - I mean original packaging and all ?!?!

If not, try to reset it to make sure it does go to the default settings.

I find that sometimes they give you equipment that has either been returned and some demo unit - then it has non-default settings.

ya, it is brand new from DCC...is strange cause the status light is flashing green, so all should be good. If possible do you think you could just right down the steps to set it up, i might be over looking something.

Thanks

To be honest I just read the manual :)

Try to set the network settings of the laptop as the same as the modem - i.e. don't use DHCP.

Got the manual in front of me, try this:

- while powered on, press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. Lights will go off while you do this
- enable DHCP on your PC and test; no luck ? enter then IP addr: 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0

All i can think of right now..........

Thanks for trying to help, im sure this thing is faulty. I even formated my laptop, in case it was something i had installed. D-link, how did this make it past quality control???? To think I chose this over the SMC modem, cause i thought D-Link of better quality :( Now i must go all the way to those unfriendly suppliers, and try explain the issue :(
