Ok,

So i have my eyes set on this laptop.

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&fb=1&l=en&oc=iMX170S0&s=dhs

(for the lazy here is a brief spec)

Pentium M Processor 760 (2 GHz)
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX

Price = $1699

My question is how do i get the laptop from there (U.S) over here? The delivery options dont allow for international deliveries. Anyone here done something similar?

EDIT: Oh yes, Dell SA dont distribute because it requires "specialised support".

This makes me think if something goes wrong with it, it could get very expensive? Great Laptop tho but not exactly lightweight but still portable and you wont have to go to the gym anymore :D

R10k for that laptop really isnt bad. I would first find out what repairs would cost.

Maybe ask Person he does a lot of imports and maybe he can advise you.

Well i'm buggering off to the U.K end May / early June.

Seeing as similar models are available in the EU i would presume there will
be support over there.

It is a nice laptop, i looked @ similar models available in the EU but they're priced higher with a 6800U as opposed to the 7800GTX from the States....

I saw the lower model on bidorbuy that sold for R22000 so scratching the local source idea......

Hmmm. You say DELL SA doesn't distribute it but I've heard reports that you can ask one of the DELL SA sale reps. very nicely to import one for you.

One of the other forums I frequent got the DELL 24" LCD that way.

Well if you can get it for that price then do it! If you are mocing to UK then support wont be a problem just make sure to get an "international support" thing. My Acer Laptop has that and I can take it to any ACER service center in the world.

Always liked the XPS M170, its a monster!

Got my M170 through importdirect. Its not quite as simple as taking the price x R/$ exchange rate...

Quite a hardcore laptop ;)

@Ap0c: So what did you end up paying to importdirect?

I've tried via our company to co-erce Dell to import with accepting no local support, not optimistic though....

So Dell SA is a dead end, they cant import it for me from Dell USA because they cant support it..... even though i said i would accept that they cannot provide me with support.... back to the drawing board, all very frustrating.
