It is almost a year after I moved to a new place where I can not get any form of broadband except sattelite. I am desperate. The only wireless provider that has coverage in our area (Smuts House area, Irene) is IBurst but I am afraid we lie between the poorest and second poorest rating on their coverage maps. Also we have BlueGum trees in the line of sight to the tower. The commissioning of the Centrurion tower moved to 25 Feb.

Who can I contact to test/demo the service using external antenna?

There are a few resellers that frequent this forum, I also know that at least one of them must be paying (banner advert) to advertise on the site.

I have heard conflicting stories about vegetation monsters affecting iBurst signal strength, iBurst is not supposed to need LOS as it is omni-directional to work with multiple base-stations especially during handovers. Having said that, LOS to your closest bs can do very little harm.

So, any iBursters close enough to Irene to offer a "free signal test with their UT"?

Otherwise resellers willing to go to Irene? - if so, please contact each other by way of private messages or email ;) via the forum.

A reseller found me thanks to the post on the forum.

Comming back to the LOS issue, only one base station covers my area, will it still make no difference?

It really depends on how far away you are from the base-station, as well as what stands inbetween, topology etc...

Since there is only one bs, try finding out if there are plans for another bs within range of where you are.

In my experience, distance from your base station is much less important than what stands between. My nearest base station is Rosebank, but I get diddly-squat signal from there since there is one large hill and one concrete jungle between us. LOS is a big plus.

True, but I look at it from a POV that the larger the distance in an urban environment the more clutter there is going to be causing that FER to shoot up.

Eureka! We've solved it:

Code:
Signal = LOSness/Distance
