I have had these before but for short periods say 2mins, But lately they have become more frequent and for longer periods eg: 26/5/2005 I was disconencted and unable to reconnect from +-2:30-4:45.

I am using Ipcop with persistent reconnect every 30secs.
I have unplugged and reset the modem but this has not helped.
Signal strenght perm on 5 -- download speeds:
500Kbits/sec - 1028Kbits/sec using telkom test and IE (single threading)

I have been making a log of all the disconnections and will post a summary (started from 26/5) here.

Anyone know how to fix this ... will it help getting technical support out to my venue or is this wbs's fault ... for "kicking me off the tower" as such.

It seems to be a WBS problem. According to the helpdesk (Porsha) they have eliminated most of the disconnects, but there are still some problematic areas. I suggest that you call the helpdesk & ask them to log the complaint. They'll give you a ref number. I think it will help the technicians if they can find some pattern or maybe a misbehaving base station. The latest disconnection problem I'm having today is quite bizarre, though - you log on, get connected, and 10 minutes down the line you get disconnected, with the message: Authentication failed ....note, I was logged on AND surfing for 10 min...

Same here....Its probably wbs problem but not ours...I`m capped and since 25 of May i have the same problems always disconnects me and i cannot connect again for about 5-10 minutes it just says that my username or password are incorrect....I have no clue whats happening with WBS...but they suck big time!

From yesterday my connection seems to die every 90 mins and I'm forced to disconnect & reconnect to get international access. I always reconnect successfully but it's annoying. I left a file download last night & noticed that I had received absolutely nothing after midnight. Is it just me or what?

Rebel - thats like a completely different issue - you should start a new topic, that is if you are not getting disconnected and cannot reconnect ... Your problem is very strange indeed!

Thanks to all that posted with their problems;)

The technical guys never called as per aggreement (on friday 30/5/2005) today anyway, so I will be phoning wbs call center again on wednesday if I find the problem is not solved (Ipcop log at work).

And will post summary of disconnections and further results here

My problems started after the commerical switch-on, before then this problem was foreign to me.... but ...

Before getting my hands onto the utd antenna I used to suffer about 8-12 disconnects per hour. Now it's down to about 5 per hour (with antenna)...

It would seem that for those of us further away from the towers this is the way life goes ... not that I'm happy with it mind you.

Until WBS rolls a network that covers areas with more towers per user than is currently the case I believe that we will continue to have this problem.

While WBS has made many efforts to assist me I, like many of you, either have to bide out time in the hope of better connectivity or move on...

:(

ipcop is a piece of firewall software to protect your pc against attack from the web

I installed ipcop onto a pc yesterday, not even 25 minutes to install, setup/configure for iburst, plugged in this morning - up an running as if it had been there forever :)

I just tried to get hold of the helpdesk to find out why my connection sucks and no one home. I connect to Northcliff and my connection was flying till today. Has anyone had any feedback?

If you want a solution .... simple ... "MOVE HOME"

Northcliff is the bastard child that no sane minded parent would WANT....

Not that I have a choice mind you ...

Lucky if I stay connected for more than 15 minutes in any one session... speed .. well, might hit 30KB/s if I'm lucky... but that lasts only for a moment...

To be fair though... many ppl do have good service with iBurst ... I used to too... then the service became commercial...
