Black holes might not exist – or at least not as scientists have imagined, cloaked by an impenetrable "event horizon". A controversial new calculation could abolish the horizon, and so solve a troubling paradox in physics.

The event horizon is supposed to mark a boundary beyond which nothing can escape a black hole's gravity. According to the general theory of relativity, even light is trapped inside the horizon, and no information about what fell into the hole can ever escape. Information seems to have fallen out of the universe.

That contradicts the equations of quantum mechanics, which always preserve information. How to resolve this conflict?

One possibility researchers have proposed in the past is that the information does leak back out again slowly. It may be encoded in a hypothetical flow of particles called Hawking radiation, which is thought to result from the black holes' event horizons messing with the quantum froth that is ever-present in space.

But other researchers argue the information may never have been cut off in the first place. Tanmay Vachaspati and his colleagues at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, US, have tried to calculate what happens as a black hole is forming. Using an unusual mathematical approach called the functional Schrodinger equation, they follow a sphere of stuff as it collapses inwards, and predict what a distant observer would see.

They find that the gravity of the collapsing mass starts to disrupt the quantum vacuum, generating what they call "pre-Hawking" radiation. Losing that radiation reduces the total mass-energy of the object – so that it never gets dense enough to form an event horizon and a true black hole. "There are no such things", Vachaspati told New Scientist. "There are only stars going toward being a black hole but not getting there."
 
I can think of so many answers that can take this thread in the wrong direction :D
 
To bring the post back OT.
I think Black holes have always been an enigma and always will be. That is untill we can get some concrete evedince of them, maybe in a few hundred years we will be able to travel to distances close to observe them, or maybe one wil form in our own galaxy...

Up to then will leave it to the mad-scientists to theorize over them. Still remember in my final physics year at varisity how we had a big laugh at one of our profs about his black hole theory :D According to him it is places in the universe where there is 0 degree Kelvin. Thus electrons and and protons stop spinning and dissapear, etc etc :D
 
Well, black holes do not exist, even if they do.

If they are "outside" the universe, they do not exist, neh?

is their another side of a black hole, can our universe have been created from the otheside of another, could our universe have a unscene mommy universe in a nother realm.

There is a branch of cosmology that has that as a hypothesis.
Personally, and I talk from ZERO authority ( :D ), this is my belief.

If the "mommy" universe can pass on some of her traits to the "baby", it leads to a very interesting line of reasoning (Darwiniasm for universes if you will).
Only universes that can form black holes will "procreate", leading to many more of those universes than those that cannot create blackholes.

It also opens a nice cause and effect case - "where did the universe come from?" is only valid in a universe where time is a dimension that can be observed. If our universe is the child of a universe where time is not a "real" dimension, then the "where did it come from" argument is baseless.
We are of course, incapable of thinking in a "no-time" way, and again, I have no educational basis in cosmology (as is most likely obvious!)
 
Yeah, I believe so. There is a lot in Africa.

Seriously, science apparently proved it, They're suppose to be the mothers of the universe. Just do not know what we are then. Assholes?
