I have a client who is using an MTN data card for internet on one computer because the vodacom signal is weak and telkom have no plans for ADSL in their area. she would like to share the internet with anonther computer. is there a solution? I tried to share the connection in WinXP and even on the network but I could not find a way. MTN help desk said there was software but the call centre guy "could not remember" what it was called or where to get it. Can anyone help me with this?

Blue tooth network

You should be able to share the internet connection by setting up a bluetooth network. Have tried before for about 10 minutes to make it work but failed. Anybody else?

Is there someone from (representing) MTN who reads theses forums ???
Like the Vodacom3G guy who was so helpful when I had a V3G card!

HELP!

I used to share my 3G connection between 2 computers running Win XP. I now have the 3G router to do the job.:D

Anyway,
1) Activate the "Sharing Internet" function on the computer that is hosting the Internet Connection via the data card. You can find this under dailup properties, Advanced Tab.
2) Set both networks to obtain an IP address automatically. On the hosting computer you will have the dialup network settings: leave them as is. The LAN connection properties must be set to automatic obtain IP address.
3) Link the two computers with a Cross Over Network cable.Wait for the IP address and default gateway to resolve. The default gateway on the non hosting PC should be the IP of the hosting machine. (Not the IP obtained from the Cell network)
4) Connect to the internet with the data card. There should now be two network icons on the hosting machine.
5) The internet explorer on the non hosting machine should not use a proxy to connect to the internet.
6) Deactivate all firewalls otherwise the cross over connection will not work. unless you specify the details of the hosting connection in the firewall setup. Disable the firewall atleast for testing purposes.

This should get you sorted!

The bluetooth sharing should in principle be very similar to the LAN connection sharing except fo the connection type. Copper vs RF.

MobileAllOver please confirm your procedure to get the sharing to work. Is it similar to my explanation for a LAN cable?

Thank you grubsner, I'm going to try your procedure. Just confirming...you used the MTN data card?

I really don't think the data card will have an impact on the abillity to make the connection. The card will give you the dial up connection that you will share with the other machine.

Just for clarity, I used a Novatel card U630 with a Voda SIM but I managed to do the same with the same card and a MTN SIM.

Help needed with Bluetooth LAN

I followed the instructions given 100% and still nothing. When I open IE on the non Internet connected PC I get a cannot connect with server screen. Please help.

Up to now:
a) Shared internet connection on connected PC
b) Hooked up Bluetooth LAN between two PCs with ICS PC providing internet access to other PCs on the network

LAN also not working!

I also couldn't get GRUBSNER's LAN option working. We bought the wrong contracts!!! The vodacom card is able to connect without using the dashboard once it's been setup, but the mtn card can only connect through their software. So there's no sharing the connection, we're bound to 1 internet computer for the next 2 years. #$@&*!

And further...vodacom have a 3g router now, the mtn card doesn't work their either. mtn are still in the dark ages!

My client has been spending approx R2500 per month on ISDN calls, so an MTN GPRS connection would cut that back to around R600 a month and stick Telkom in the eye at the same time.

Got bluetooth ICS working

I googled "internet connection sharing bluetootyh network"; got instructions and got it working. Key seems to be to toggle all the switches and to have all antivirus 100% off.
