Downgrade fee on mtn contract?

Hey all

I wanted to downgrade my MTN contract so I called MTN and they tell me that there will be a fee of somthing like R450 to downgrade. Now my Complience Officer overheard the discussion on and told me they cannot charge me for that...

Anyone here that can add some input? is he right?

Yip you have to pay it if you within contract!

On Vodacom its free to downgrade if you do when when your contract expires. It should be the same on MtN

Hi,
For what it's worth, a year or more even before we had Number Portability, I managed to back out of a 2 month old contract at Nashua Mobile. I had a phone about a month old that started breaking. Because they not kept their end of the contract deal, I wanted out. They told me also to pay up, but once I threatened them with not adhering to contractual obligations, they let it slide. They also wanted to terminate my number which I brought to them from a PAYG, but also told them in no uncertain terms that the number belongs to me on MTN and it is not in their power to terminate a number they did not issue to me.
Long story short, I moved from contract back to PAYG at no cost. Nashua Mobile still owes me some money and they couldn't be bothered to pay it back either.

Hi Nick

According to your contract you have signed for 24 months on a fixed package. Now if your Downgrading your contract MTN will charge you a "Migration fee" and depending on the package you’re going to, you might also be charged the Handset subsidy you got on your Contract. That is all stipulated in the agreement you signed on application.
