My DSTV has no picture or sound, but the signal is fine and everything shows up (menu, info about shows etc...)

Anyone got any ideas? I've tried rescanning and it picks up everything but still no pic or sound...

I have a HDD DVD player but the tuner doesnt play sound from TV channels.
If I reset it will I lose all the data on the HDD?

The cables could be the problem but im not sure...

How can I fix it?

If its a HDD then it shouldn't loose any data if you switch off, much like a pc would. Maybe you'd only loose the data stored in memory. I THINK, but give it a try and let us know.

are any of you guys also experiencing a lot of problems with DSTV's firmware upgrade that was released a few months back? my dstv goes bonkers sometimes with that firmware. i think there's a new firmware upgrade coming out at the end of the month.

Our DSD990 plays tricks too. The picture doesn't appear and it shows some message about not being subscribed or something and asks us to rescan with Menu/1/3. Then when you scan it comes right again.

Definitely a bit dodgy these decoders.

I wonder when we will be able to use the USB port located on the front of the PVR decoder?

mine just switches off by itself or it freezes. it also gives weird error messages and then i'm forced to reboot.

You must check there where you tune the channels, there is a setting you can change. You can change it between PAL B/G, SECAM B/G (Europe/East Europe). I : PAL I/II (U.K./Ireland) ... and some others. Some of these settings will give picture only and no sound, and one should give sound and picture. Maybe that's what you've got? I had this problem with a LCD tv.

There is a firmware upgrade in the offing, probably the end of the month.

You note I didn't say which month :)

It's a bludy pita!

It has a knack of checking my subscriber status when you're at the peak of a programme!

...and quite often it loses sound/picture. Often a turn off/on with the remote works, but occasionally I have to remove the card.

Africa...pay for Sh*te.

Thanks will check the settings!
