Hi all,

I am in urgent need of a FREE DVD to AVI converter...anyone know any?

I generally use AutoGK in combination with AnyDVD, but AnyDVD isn't free. You can probably substitute DVD43, which is free, for AnyDVD.

I have WinAVI Video Converter. Not free but it works for me. crappy quality because i havent tweaked the settings. dont have a link for it. search for something on download.com

vlc. stream output while you watch! you can convert anything you watch/listen to almost any other format.

very powerfull media player (actually an insult calling it a media player).

it might be a little confusing initially to get it to do what you want, so if you have any trouble, feel free to PM me.

Almost forgot... it is opensource, runs on any OS and is free!

Whenever I convert anything with VLC it ends up being a complete failure and a waste of a couple hours. The result is invariably a stuttering mess. :o

best software around

well worth paying the money for these programs

i bought a avi to mpeg converter what a joy
$45 - considering all the free ones out - like MediaFork/Handbrake, GK, or DVD2VCD (misleading title as VCD is only one of many formats) - I dont know why I should pay R350. :o

i payed 25 dolla which is nothing, i tried other free ones and they sucked badly this software just works really well and is fast :)

if you doing alot of stuff 350 really is not that much

i spend that on a night out easily

Easy to use DVD converter, DVD rip software with high DVD ripping speed, can rip DVD, convert your favorite DVD movie to all most popular video/audio formats such as DVD to AVI, DivX, MPEG, VCD, MP4, WMV, MP3, WMA, WAV etc.

do those programs do all of this?

Not if you spend it on software :p

Mediafork is drag and drop, dvd to encoded file. The choices of output file types are limited to h264 (which realistically kicks all the other ones arse anyway:)), xvid (pretty much the defacto standard), mp4, and a couple others.

The other apps I mentioned have an impressive array of import/export controls similar to the ones you mentioned.

I ripped and encoded 95% of my fairly substantial dvd collection with handbrake/mediafork without a hitch. They're all easy to use and boa Free :)
