EDGE on Nokia 9300

As I am new to this forum I would like to say that there are some extremely smart guys out there! Keep it up.

If MTNbroadband could humour me I would appreciate it.

I am using a nokia 9300 and do get the Y'ello Broadband on the display. But if I use the phone's internet browser directly, it seems extremely slow. I guess I am on GPRS. Is it possible to access the Edge capability directly or only if I use my laptop?

Hi Thys

Your phone will switch on its own between edge and gprs, depending on coverage.
Have you activated cell broadcast on your handset?????

Browsing on my 9500 is also very slow, but it is also very slow when I use Wi-Fi or 802.11g connections. When I use the phone as a modem, it is pretty quick depending on whether I get a GPRS or EDGE connection (the latter so far not very common).

This had led me to believe that the slow browsing is related to the Opera browser.

Further tests showed that it is particularly bad for frames pages and pages with huge tables and lots of scripting ... which unfortunately these days are more common than not.

what contract have you got. I'm on procall 300 and still cannot get the Yello Broadband

I would very much like to make the most of my phone, at least to get office mails to my phone.

it is no problem connecting using gprs, but i would like to get the edge working. where can i get more info please
 
Radimpe. Are you in Edge coverage? If you get the Y'ello Broadband' cell broadcast then you are in coverage. If you have an EDGE handset and are in an EDGE site you automatically connect via EDGE and not GPRS as MTN automatically selects the best option for your situation.
 
coverage

I'm in Witbank Mpumalanga and I got my MTN account today. Together with the coverage map and it shows EDGE is not available in Witbank. Guess I'll have to wait.

Connecting with the 9300 on regular GPRS is straight forward with the browser but I'll be happy if I could get a little more speed.
