I have build a calculator so you can do some calculations.
The calculator holds you fixed, the same kilometres, years and finance, then works out the true cost of owning a specific electric car against a specific petrol/diesel one, all in, per month. It treats both the honest way, depreciation, finance interest, energy, insurance, maintenance and licensing, with charging worked out from your electricity rate and your home versus public split. Then it finds the break-even, the year the electric car's cheaper running finally pays back its higher price and faster depreciation. No thumb on the scale, just your honest answer.
Anyone interested can have a look here: https://southafricafacts.co.za/electric-vs-petrol-car-cost-south-africa/
