I was told more than once on returning that my certified copies were out of date after 3 months. I just carry the original now, it is less annoying.
I'm more concerned about losing the original. It's no problem getting more copies certified.
My new (Australian) passport arrives this week, and I had every intention of doing the Home Affairs penance and queuing to get my PR stamped and certified into the new passport. Now it seems I don't have to. Can anyone confirm this? I still have the original green PR certificate issued in 1992.
Indeed. You are quite right. Losing it would be a nightmare. I actually ran out of time last time I flew and grabbed the original as it left the house. But I’m flying out on Thursday and have no excuse this time. I’ll get it done tomorrow

Just don't lose your certificate. It sounds like it will be quicker to reapply for PR than to get it replaced.

yep, also happened to me.
so now either I go do a certified copy the day before I fly, or I just carry the original.
What I have also experienced with a certified copy, is that they pull you to the naughty bench while they call Pretoria/go online to verify the original against the copy.

When I got married in 1972, ID numbers were not the same as they were subsequently, and my marriage certificate, which shows my wife's ID at that time is different from the number issued in 1995, when we got ID books
The officer would not budge. As far as she is concerned, this marriage certificate is invalid

Received a written apology from P Mbebethu in HA Pretoria (with 3 spelling mistakes, including my name), He says he has fast-tracked my proof of permanent residence and also enclosed a separate letter (no spelling mistakes) which I can show to immigration when leaving and returning. Instead of 18 month, it will be "very much sooner"

Hello,
I lost my PR certificate and applied for proof of permanent residence through VFS. Can you please assist me how to fast track the process as I need to travel in November? Any contact or email who I can contact please?
I received notification to visit VFS to collect the Permanent Residence Permit and went to their office at 2 Long Street on Monday
There were 8 people (employees) in the office, all doing nothing at all. I handed in my appointment letter and was told to go into this large office
At the desk was a fellow, asleep at the counter. There is a plastic tape barrier 2m from the counter with a sign warning you not to approach. I banged on the partition wall and he woke up and asked what I wanted. I was the only person in this large room with 12 rows of chairs 20 wide
On telling him it was for a collection, he disappeared into a side office out of sight
He then appeared 30 mins later with this plastic envelope and told me to sign on a type of plastic surface. I was then given this envelope. I saw that it was open and also empty. There is a note on the envelope to the effect that it must NOT be accepted if opened. When I complained, he said I had signed for it, so was not his responsibility any longer
There is a phone number 0213423270 on the envelope. If you dial this number, you hear a message that the number does not exist.
After wasting my breath with this individual, who just walked off, I came home and sent an email to the address on the envelope.
What a useless bunch. You get nothing of value by paying VFS R1800 to submit your documents and I still do not have a PRP
