Hi guys! Pleeeeease can somebody help me:
I have an Acer laptop running WinXP with SP2, that I use to connect via ADSL to my work VPN. I was able to connect to ADSL perfectly until about 3 weeks ago, when I suddenly started getting error 769, destination unreachable. I have a desktop PC that is connecting perfectly via ADSL to the internet, but as soon as I connect my laptop onto my ADSL router I constantly get the error above. The only thing that has happened during this time was that my work downloaded some automatic updates to my laptop, but they are convinced that this is not causing my problem (dare I believe them?).
I have tried the following with no joy :
- changed ports on the ADSL router (I have a Telkom 4-port ethernet router)
- taken the cable from my working desktop PC and plugged it into my laptop
- recreated my ADSL connection on my laptop
- ensured that my desktop PC is connected successfully while trying to connect my laptop on a 2nd port of the router
- I have checked that the IP settings are set to automatic
- configured a new laptop with ADSL and VPN and I could connect perfectly using the same router and cable!!!!!

The following happens when trying to connect :
- When connecting into my work's LAN my laptop connects fine, and displays 3 network connections (LAN - Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet, ADSL, & LAN - Cisco VPN Adapter)
- when I plug a working cable from my ADSL router to my laptop the light for that port goes off on the router and the LAN - Broadcom connection disappears from my network connections
- the LAN - Cisco VPN Adapter connection shows as disabled, and when I try to enable it I get a 'connection failed' error
- if I reboot the laptop all 3 connections are visible, but as soon as I plug the cable in from the router to the laptop the 1st LAN connection disappears again
- when reconnecting the next day at work into my work's LAN I am able to connect immediately

I am not very technical when it comes to things like this, so have run out of ideas! Can anybody give me any suggestions?
