When you run your own web Site, you sometimes need to change Hosts - this need to be done ASAP!

I have been waiting as from 18 July 2006 for ZA.NET to proccess my "Modify Request" and have been 1st in the queue for the last 2 weeks with the amount of request in the queue fluctuating between 240 odd to 140 odd?
It look as my request are being skipped week by week?
(And their policy states "First Come, First Served")

Is'nt there a South African overseer of Registars like INTERNIC for us to complain to?
Unfortunately ZA.NET is not on their list!
(I already tried e-mailing them on the contact e-mail address more than a week ago but got no response!

In the time being I must pay 2 serving hosts for their services as the DNS still points to the old host which then redirects the browser to the new host, causing a slow loading time which frustrate the viewer!

Is there anybody with a solution for this problem?
I am definitely going to change the domain name to .co.za after this experiment which failed horribly!

Thanking you in advance,

Team_Roadhog

uhm but doesn't their record just hold the dns server it must use? I changed my site location alot but never needed to contact them since it was changed on the dns host.

btw za.net is a free subdomain service. .co.za is a proper domain service and now that its cheap i think everyone will be moving to their own addy i guess.

There is always a BUT!
I save a lottamoney by managing my own DNS!
Remember the "First Come First Served" clause - I currently have 5 domain names and the 6th is in the "sperm going down the tunnel" stage!

If I remember correctly the going rate is between R15 to R45 per domain name if done by new host. (They are only willing to do 1 domain for free when you first sign up)
My argument is that it is so easy to manage the DNS yourself, nearly the whole process is automated. (A week is still acceptable, but a over a month means war)
It is only the final "OK" that is handled by a human - Maybe a human with the new national "the extended hand behind the back" signature? :p (Remember the "First Come First Served" clause)

Any how, I just discovered ISPA !
Busy studying their pages!

I will post my findings here - please if you have a better answer.......

You can still manage your dns on co.za. The only difference between the two is co.za you pay r50 per year and za.net is free. There are no other charges from co.za.

Hi,

Did anyone manage to find out how we can contact the za.net NIC - I also have a urgent name server change request that is just going into a black hole. If they can maintain their own system the za.net domain should be taken away from them.

Why should it be taken away?

They're offering a free service. Its their domain name, ZA.NET. Why would
ICANN remove ZA.NET? Hotmail is also free and gets lots of complaints yet
no-one has taken hotmail.com away from MS.

Best is to register your own .CO.ZA domain or a .COM or .BIZ etc.
Those will be top level domains and not subdomains. May count better
for SEO too.

ZA NIC is absolutely usless

It takes MONTHS to register domains, MONTHS to get updates done, and MONTHS to get them to respond to faxes, because yes people, they want faxes for everything.

And here we have people complaining about Uniforum SA.

I like how chops have the nerve to complain about something they get for free ... as in beer

Go with the bloody flow!

Unfortunately I have to concur - after all I went through the fight myself!

Must say I have a few .za.net domains and the service is not always THAT bad! (Slower than .co.za):o

Best of luck and keep your cool!
